PTA Meeting 4/22/2021 @ 7:00 PM Zoom

1) As requested by PTA members earlier in the year, members of the Gateway Project will spend a few minutes explaining the initiative and how transforming the space near the bridge can benefit the community. As voting nears for the next PTA Board and School Leadership Team members, I’d like to close out unfinished initiatives.
2) Melissa Rosado informed the PTA that she will be running for Community Education Council for District 11. Having served on the SLT for three years, she is looking to advocate for the school and district at the CEC level. Voting is due imminently.

3) Budget Committee
Moving forward, the school administration has evaluated ways to improve arts, music, and enrichment curriculum for the students of PS175. The school is seeking a K-8 music initiative that will require PTA to strongly shore up fundraising initiatives with an approximate target of 25,000. A Budget Committee will be formed at this PTA meeting, to further discuss and present a budget for June submission.
We have been working hard to get all refund checks from Pocketbook bingo into donors’ hands.
4) Teacher Appreciation Luncheon will be held on 5/5/21:
and click on the yellow Donate button. We have received $500 to date.Anticipated headcount is 50 teachers and staff.

5) Formation of Nominating/Voting Committee, Discussion of open posts for PTA and SLT (Bylaws role descriptions below) – we require a chair that is NOT running for office
The PTA is seeking the following:
(2) Co-President position – […shall preside at all meetings of the association and shall be an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee. The co-presidents shall appoint chairpersons of association committees with the approval of the executive board. The co-presidents shall delegate responsibilities to other association members and shall encourage meaningful participation in all parent and school activities. The co-presidents shall attend all regular meetings of the presidents’ council and shall be a mandatory member of the school leadership team. The co-presidents shall meet regularly with the executive board members in accordance with these bylaws to plan the agendas for the general membership meetings. (1) Treasurer – […responsible for all financial affairs and funds of the association. The treasure shall also be responsible for maintaining an updated record of all income and expenditures on school premises and shall be one of the signatories on checks. The treasure shall adhere to and implement all financial procedures established by the association. The treasurer shall prepare and present a written report of all transactions at every executive board and general membership meeting. This report must include income, refunds, reimbursements and other expenditures, and opening and closing balances for the reporting period. The treasurer shall also prepare the association’s interim and annual financial reports. The treasurer shall make available all books and financial records for viewing by members upon request and for audit. A School Leadership Team position is available:
The School Leadership Team will have one position eligible to be filled. A group comprised of parents and teachers, including the Principal, United Federation of Teachers Chapter Leader and PTA President. The group is intended to discuss the Comprehensive Education Plan and other school concerns.
6) Fundraising Initiatives Continue:
There is no substitute for direct contribution as the best way to support the PTA of PS175. But there are other initiatives available:
